discussion guide
When we judge who we want to represent us in City Council, we can question the candidates about what issues they will deal with at City Hall and how they will make City Hall work to address these issues. We think there are six basic things our elected officials should actively support.
The community organizations and groups who have come together under City Watch: Inspiring Leadership agree that the primary thing we need to do as a city is create an equitable community. The only way this can be achieved is through a City Hall with integrity.

Equity should be the underlying principal of everything the City does. A leader’s role is to question what is fair, whose interests are being met, and who is excluded from the benefits of the city.
1. Commit to Community Infrastructure
2. Commit to People
3. Commit to the environment
Modern cities depend on a healthy ecology. We all depend on our green space for exercise, fresh air and social activities. As a city we need to value our environment, acknowledge the services it provides and incorporate this into practice. We need to do better in how we take care of our green infrastructure, dispose of waste, use fossil fuels, provide food resources and move people in and around the city.

The relations between the community and government must be built on a foundation of integrity.
4. Be accessible
5. Be accountable
6. Be capable
